Biography

Having been creating sensational headwear for over a quarter of a century, British milliner Edwina Ibbotson knows a thing or two about hats. Based in the heart of London's Battersea, Edwina's studio is an eclectic treasure trove of inspiration and a hive of creativity. Her spectacular and incredibly delicate designs have resulted in one of the most renowned reputations in the industry, attracting clients from Racegoers to Royalty and Brides to Fashion Designers. Pippa Middleton is a particular fan of the highly flattering assymetrical styles.

Attracting a loyal high profile following, Edwina's headpieces are finely handcrafted using century-old techniques. From hand-dyeing her own fabrics to making her own blocks, all of the components are then stitched together – sewing the trim alone can take up to 3 days at a time. Fabrics vary from sumptuous silks, vintage lace, fabulous feathers and tulle to name but a few. Her own collection of vintage flowers has been established over many years and is a constant source of inspiration. Edwina's personal favourite being traditional felt as it is so tactile and beautiful to mould; she is also a well-respected judge at the prestigious Feltmakers Design Awards.

As a small child, Edwina would pester her father to help her create dolls house furniture and she would spend hours alongside her crafty grandmothers. These creative beginnings led her to study photography, before quickly realising that her passion lay elsewhere. Edwina studied at both London's College of Fashion and The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

The Edwina Ibbotson headwear experience is definitely about finding something utterly timeless, whatever the occasion. A hat should compliment, rather than overshadow an outfit and these basic principles ensure that her headwear appeals to young and old alike.
